Kwale county government, under the leadership of Governor Fatuma Achani, has launched a comprehensive beach safety initiative.
Diani Beach, the preferred holiday spot for many Kenyans and international visitors, has been the recipient of the Best Destination Beach in Africa for six consecutive years.
The safety campaign, prompted by recent drowning incidents, involves deploying lifeguards and advocating for water safety precautions.
Governor Achani emphasized the need for caution, particularly during the crowded festive season, and urged both locals and tourists to adhere to safety guidelines.
The campaign extends beyond the beaches, with an emphasis on educating the public about potential risks and promoting responsible behavior.
Boat operators were urged to carry adequate lifesaving equipment, and beachgoers are advised to limit water activities after sunset.
Governor Achani assured holidaymakers that Kwale is prepared to welcome them with clean, pristine beaches while ensuring their safety through a combination of lifeguards, public awareness, and collaborative efforts with Beach Management Units.
