Governor Joshua Irungu has commissioned six hospital management boards in an eventheld at the Governors Compound in Nanyuki, to provide oversight of the hospitals, promote their development and approve plans and programs for the County Government.
These boards are for NCRH – Nyahururu County Referral Hospital -General, Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital – NTRH – LHS Nanyuki, Rumuruti Sub-county Hospital, Ndindika Sub-County Hospital, Dol Dol Sub county Hospital, and Lamuria Sub-county Hospital.
Each board has nine members, two of whom are county staffs, one from the private sector, a representative from the faith-based organization, a differently-abled person, from finance sector, academia, civil society, and healthcare.
Governor Irungu has assured of the governments support to ensure that the new members will have conducive environment to improve healthcare in the county.
I pledge to protect the boards from political interference and obstruction from the execution and delivery of their critical mandates vested in them by the law, he said.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor H.E Reuben Kamuri asked the board members to be creative mobilizing resources for their individual facilities to complement the annual county budget allocation.
Health CECM Albert Taiti has termed the move as timely saying management gaps that have limited tailored policy development for the institutions will be addressed by the boards.
For the past one year we have not had boards in hospitals which has been a little bit difficult to know what is actually happening in the facilities, it can only get better for all these health facilities, CECM Wagura Taiti said.
Board members will be on a three year contract.
Government officials presented during the event included: County Secretary Konange Wahome, County Assembly Health Committee members led by the chairperson Nicholas Lempaira, CECM in charge of County Administration and Coordination Purity Gitonga, CECM in charge of Finance Samwel Gachigi, COs Dr Timothy Kipkopus Panga (Health) Mr. Stephen Lapian (Governors Office), and Mr. Burje Mohamed (Economic Planning & County Development), Director Legal Services Annette Muriuki, among other government officials.
