The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced a change to the vote-counting procedure for the upcoming December 7 general elections.
In a bid to ensure a smooth and efficient electoral process, the EC revealed that presidential ballots will now be counted before parliamentary ballots at all polling stations across the country.
This move is designed to maintain order and expedite the counting process, ensuring a quicker declaration of the presidential election results.
The announcement was made by Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Head of the EC’s Training Department, during a meeting with senior security officials and political party leaders.
The meeting, which included representatives from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), aimed to discuss measures for a safe, transparent, and peaceful election.
The change in the counting procedure is seen as a vital step to enhance the credibility and efficiency of the electoral process.
With the December 7 polls expected to be highly contested, the EC’s decision to prioritize presidential ballot counting is viewed as a crucial effort to reduce the risk of disputes and ensure timely results.
Political analysts see this as a positive move toward promoting transparency and fostering trust in the electoral system, especially given the significance of this year’s elections.
