The National Communications Authority (NCA) has issued a warning regarding a circulating video on social media.
The video purportedly provides instructions on using the short code *402# to identify owners of misplaced Ghana Cards.
According to the NCA, the short code can only display the list of SIMs linked to a Ghana Card and cannot be utilized to check for any other unlinked SIM.
The authority urged the public to disregard the false information presented in the video and assures consumers of ongoing efforts to safeguard SIMs linked to Ghana Cards.
The Authority in a release on Tuesday 6th Febuary, 2024 wrote,
“The attention of the National Communications Authority (NCA) has been drawn to a video circulating on social media informing the general public about the steps to follow using the short code, *402#, to identify owners of misplaced Ghana Cards should the said card be in your possession.
The Authority wishes to state emphatically that the short code *402# is only capable of displaying the list of SIMs linked to a Ghana Card and cannot be used to check for any other SIM which is not linked to that Ghana Card.
Therefore, the content of the video is false and should be disregarded.
The NCA wishes to assure consumers that it will continue to work closely with all relevant stakeholders for this purpose to ensure that all SIMs linked to a particular Ghana Card are safe.”
