The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has called upon Kenyans to embrace domestic travel, explore new experiences, and contribute to the growth of the local tourism industry.
According to KTB Chairperson Francis Gichaba, this approach not only supports the tourism sector but also sustains the food chain and ensures the economic sustainability of the hotel industry.
The “You Deserve A Holiday” campaign, launched by the KTB in 2022, has marked an impressive milestone, generating 1.09 billion Kenyan shillings (about 7.74 million U.S. dollars) in revenue and selling 108,963 bed nights since its inception.
Kenya’s tourism sector is experiencing a surge in growth through domestic travel, leading to significant economic benefits for local communities and economies.
The KTB’s “You Deserve A Holiday” campaign, which was launched in 2022, has successfully partnered with over 20 industry stakeholders, including tour operators, airlines, and hoteliers, to create comprehensive travel packages catering to domestic travelers.
By organizing joint marketing initiatives, such as golf tour series, mall activations, corporate visits, church activations, and media promotions, the campaign aims to penetrate untapped areas of the domestic market and sustain long-term demand for domestic travel.
KTB Chairperson Francis Gichaba emphasized the role of domestic tourism in creating new destinations and supporting various sectors of the economy, encouraging Kenyans to explore their own backyard and contribute to the revival of the tourism industry.
