The Minister of Communications Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has announced that the government will in the coming weeks start projects to deepen Ghana’s Communication and Digitalization efforts.
Among the projects, she said, is the roll out of the handset and equipment registration alongside the SIM registration and set up of the Central Equipment Identity.
This, according to her, will help address the challenge of the smuggling and trade in counterfeit, stolen and substandard mobile devices.
Ms Ursula Owusu announced this at a press conference in Accra on Sunday September 5.
“The Ministry has programmed the following projects for takeoff in the next weeks to deepen Ghana’s Communication and Digitalization efforts
“The designation of close to 200 institutions across 13 sectors of our economy as critical information infrastructure institutions
“Roll out of the handset and equipment registration alongside the SIM registration and set up the Central Equipment Identity, which will help address the challenge of the smuggling and trade in counterfeit, stolen and substandard mobile devices.
“Train 3,000 girls in three regions namely, Western North, North East and Savannah Regions in basic computer skills, coding and HTML as part of the Girls-ICT Project. It is Digi Time in Ghana and Government is working to make this country a smart one.”
