Agnes Naa Momo Lartey is a distinguished politician and advocate for social justice, best known for her grassroots mobilisation and commitment to championing women’s and children’s rights which has left an indelible mark on her community and the nation at large.
Born on April 16, 1976, in the Krowor Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, Naa Momo has spent her career fighting for the marginalized and vulnerable, making significant strides in public service and politics. Her recent nomination by President John Dramani Mahama as the Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection is a testament to her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to social causes.
Her journey into politics began in 2000 when she served as an assemblywoman and later as the presiding member of the Krowor Municipal Assembly. Her grassroots mobilization skills and deep connection with her community helped her rise through the political ranks. In 2021, she became the first female Member of Parliament for the Krowor Constituency, a historic achievement that exemplified her determination and the trust her constituents placed in her.
One of her most notable achievements is her role in promoting gender equality and empowering women. As a tireless advocate for women’s rights, she has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at improving access to education and economic opportunities for women. Through her work, she has implemented programs to ensure that children receive proper education, healthcare, and protection from abuse and exploitation. Her commitment to creating a safe and nurturing environment for children has made a significant impact on the lives of many young Ghanaians.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Central University, a Master’s in Human Resource Development from the University of Cape Coast, an MPhil in Leadership from the University of Professional Studies, Accra and also, also holds a Ph.D. in African Studies, demonstrating a strong commitment to scholarly pursuits that inform her work in policymaking and advocacy. Her academic accomplishments have equipped her with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complex landscape of politics and public service effectively.
