In celebration of Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Festival of the Sacrifice,” Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has conveyed a heartfelt message to the Muslim community.
Eid-ul-Adha is one of the two significant Islamic holidays observed worldwide each year, with this occasion considered holier than the other, Eid al-Fitr.
Eid-ul-Adha commemorates the story of Ibrahim (Abraham) and his willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God’s command.
However, before the sacrifice could be made, God intervened and provided a lamb instead.
To honor this divine intervention, Muslims ritually sacrifice an animal, dividing it into three parts.
One portion is allocated to the poor and needy, another is retained for the home, and the remaining share is given to relatives.
Eid-ul-Adha follows the Islamic lunar calendar, taking place on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah and lasting for three days.
As per the international (Gregorian) calendar, the dates vary each year, shifting approximately 11 days earlier.
Vice President Bawumia’s message extends warm wishes to all Muslims during this sacred occasion, emphasizing the significance of faith, sacrifice, and the spirit of giving to those in need.
