The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor, has called for a collective effort to effectively and efficiently manage the land borders of the country as Africa marks Africa Border Day.
Delivering a statement in Parliament on Wednesday, Minister Jinapor emphasized the need to view borders as bridges that connect nations and promote peace, security, and development.
He highlighted the significance of border management for Africa’s security and peaceful coexistence, emphasizing that boundary issues remain crucial to the continent’s progress.
Africa Border Day, adopted by African Ministers in 2010, serves as a platform to celebrate Africa’s achievements in securing and managing national and regional boundaries.
Minister Jinapor underscored the importance of reflecting on the role borders play in national and regional security, stability, and sustainable development.
He acknowledged that effective border management requires coordination, cooperation, and the resolution of border disputes.
The Minister expressed gratitude for the swift ratification of the African Union Convention on Cross-Border Cooperation and commended the Ghana Boundary Commission for their dedicated work in securing international boundaries.
The Minister further highlighted the challenges hindering peace and prosperity along Africa’s borders, including transnational organized crime, terrorism, smuggling, and irregular migration.

He stressed the importance of cross-border cooperation and the implementation of the African Union Convention on Cross-Border Cooperation to address these challenges.
Minister Jinapor called for increased cooperation among countries, regional organizations, and international partners to ensure secure and stable borders that contribute to the prosperity of African peoples.
