The aviation industry is a critical driver of Tanzania’s economic growth, with its impact extending beyond tourism to other key sectors, according to Zanzibar Airport Authority Director General Seif Abdallah Juma. Speaking at a fundraising event hosted by Puma Energy Tanzania in Unguja, Mr. Juma highlighted the sector’s significance, warning that any disruptions could have a ripple effect on the nation’s economy.
“The aviation sector is crucial not only for tourism but also for related industries. If it faces any challenges, the ripple effect could hinder the overall economy of the country,” Mr. Juma stated.
Record-Breaking Growth in Passenger Arrivals
Mr. Juma pointed to impressive growth in air travel, revealing that in February 2025 alone, 82,750 visitors arrived in Zanzibar. Notably, 91.3% (75,548 passengers) landed at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, demonstrating the airport’s pivotal role in Tanzania’s tourism sector.
The event, organized by Puma Energy Tanzania, sought to reinforce the importance of aviation in generating national revenue while also recognizing key players contributing to the sector’s success.
