Ghana’s Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, has urged the media to build a landscape that truly reflects the needs of its citizens.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the third cohort of the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme (MCEP) on Tuesday, 10th September 2024, Abubakar emphasized the importance of media in shaping a well-informed society.
“We can work together to build a media landscape that is both strong and advances the needs of Ghanaians,” she declared, underscoring the program’s role in equipping journalists with vital skills.
Lauding the initiative launched by her predecessor, the Minister highlighted the MCEP’s progress and its inspiring effect on similar efforts, including collaborations with the UNDP and the British High Commission.
With a theme centered on “Equipping the Media to Play an Effective Role in Nation Building,” the programme has already benefitted over 100 journalists in previous cohorts.
Participants, ranging from reporters to media critics, are set to engage in interactive discussions and learn from seasoned facilitators throughout the four-day event.
