The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, has charged Federal Permanent Secretaries to intensify their collaboration and accelerate the implementation of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025, aimed at transforming the public service into a more efficient, accountable, and citizen-focused institution.
Speaking at the inaugural retreat for Federal Permanent Secretaries, Walson-Jack emphasized that the plan is a strategic roadmap that will shape a more efficient, accountable, and citizen-focused public service. The retreat, held from September 5th to 7th, 2024, in Zuba, Niger State, was themed “Accelerating Public Service Reforms Towards Effective Service Delivery.”
Walson-Jack highlighted the critical role of Permanent Secretaries in bridging policy formulation and execution, urging them to align their operations with the objectives of the FCSSIP-25. She commended the Permanent Secretaries for their dedication to maintaining the service’s values and standards, encouraging them to see themselves as custodians of institutional knowledge.
The Head of Civil Service reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the Permanent Secretaries by providing guidance, resources, and solutions to overcome challenges. She assured them of her unwavering support, stating, “Together, we will navigate difficulties and find solutions that serve our country’s best interests.”
Walson-Jack also emphasized the importance of embracing the core values of accountability, meritocracy, professionalism, loyalty, and efficiency as the foundation of their leadership. She urged for a cultural shift within the civil service towards transparency, efficiency, and accountability.\
The retreat aimed to accelerate public service reforms towards effective service delivery, with Walson-Jack’s call to action setting the tone for the Permanent Secretaries to work together to achieve the goals of the FCSSIP-25.
