The Ogun State Government, through its Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, has provided essential working tools to over 300 graduates of various vocational training programs.
During a ceremony held at the Women Development Centre in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, the state distributed items including sewing machines, locally made ovens, pedicure boxes, stoning machines, and industrial burners.
These graduates, comprising out-of-school children, unemployed youths, and women, were trained in fields such as fashion designing, catering, hairdressing, cosmetology, and beauty care.
Commissioner Adijat Adeleye, speaking at the event, emphasized the importance of this empowerment initiative in promoting financial independence among the trainees.
“The skills acquired are critical tools for personal advancement and the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs),” Adeleye noted.
She emphasized the vital role of vocational training as an alternative livelihood means, urging the graduates to utilize their new skills confidently and creatively.
“I want you to make adequate use of the knowledge and skill acquired. It is important to embrace entrepreneurship with confidence and creativity in developing solutions that can turn needs into opportunities,” she said.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Ayotunde Lawal, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the state government’s commitment to improving the lives of youths and women through vocational training.
Mrs. Adejumoke Adewole, the ministry’s permanent secretary, added that the program aimed to equip trainees with marketable and essential skills for local economic growth.
Graduates including Barakat Adeniyi, Racheal Ajayi, Olorunda Sesan, and Olabide Taiwo expressed their gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun for this initiative, which they believe will enable them to be self-reliant and contribute positively to the state’s development.
