President Samia Suluhu Hassan has issued a compelling call to action, urging development partners, the Africa Green Revolution Forum (AGRF), and the private sector to collaborate in elevating the agricultural sector across African nations.
Speaking at the ‘Presidential Summit: Heads of State Roundtable’ as part of the African Food Systems Forum/AGRF, President Hassan emphasized Tanzania’s readiness to engage with development partners to harness investment opportunities for the transformation of the country’s food systems.
President Hassan’s vision extends to a comprehensive approach, with resolutions aimed at fostering sustainable food systems, enhancing cooperation among African countries, and addressing food and nutrition challenges.
With Africa’s abundance of arable land, youthful population, and natural resources, she stressed the continent’s potential to provide solutions to global food system issues.
President Hassan also underscored the urgency of tackling hunger and malnutrition, citing the unfortunate statistic of 283 million Africans facing daily food insecurity.
Meanwhile, leaders from neighboring countries like Kenya and Burundi joined the discussion, emphasizing the importance of cross-border trade and technology adoption in modernizing farming systems.
The UAE and Norway pledged substantial support for renewable energy projects in Africa and encouraged a focus on leveraging aquatic resources for food production to combat hunger and malnutrition.
