President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye celebrated the conclusion of the National Dialogue on the Political System , calling it a “major democratic sequence” and a “historic step” toward strengthening Senegal’s democratic framework.
The week-long event was initiated by the President to address the nation’s institutional challenges and propose structural reforms.
The dialogue brought together representatives from government institutions, political parties, civil society, academia, and engaged citizens. Participants engaged in constructive discussions, focusing on identifying limitations in the current political system and proposing solutions for more transparent and efficient governance.

In a statement from the Presidency, President Faye expressed “deep gratitude” to attendees for their commitment to the republic and their contributions to modernizing Senegal’s governance. He also commended the organizers, experts, and facilitators for their efforts to make the event successful.
“This republican moment, driven by dialogue and consultation, reflects a clear commitment to rebuilding our institutions around the principles of sovereignty, justice, and citizen participation,” President Faye said. He emphasized that the National Dialogue is an evolving process, intended to serve as a cornerstone for a vibrant and inclusive democracy in Senegal.
The opposition, however, has called for concrete actions to follow the dialogue’s recommendations, urging swift implementation of proposed reforms to address longstanding institutional challenges.
