The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has achieved a significant milestone with the successful pilot deployment of its new Electronic Currency Declaration Form (e-CDF) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Launched on April 9, 2025, the pilot marks a major step in the Service’s ongoing digital transformation agenda, aimed at strengthening border controls and enhancing transparency in financial disclosures. The e-CDF system enables both inbound and outbound travelers to declare currency electronically, replacing manual processes with a secure, efficient, and accountable digital platform.
During the pilot phase, the system processed 69 currency declaration transactions. Outbound travelers accounted for 51 declarations, with a total value of $1,200,281.22, while inbound travelers made 18 declarations, totaling $177,786.88.

Developed in line with international anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-financing of terrorism (CFT) standards, the e-CDF platform provides real-time data to support intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation. The NCS, under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, says the initiative underscores its commitment to leveraging technology for improved compliance, facilitation of legitimate travel and trade, and the protection of Nigeria’s borders.
Following the successful pilot in Abuja, the NCS plans to extend the e-CDF deployment to other international airports and border posts nationwide.
