The Chief Commercial Manager at the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Kofi Addo, has announced the government’s intention to collaborate with private sectors by providing key inputs to facilitate mechanized and commercial farming.
This new development was declared at the Accra Workshop of the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce’s (UKGCC) Grand Challenge programme, where industry players highlighted key challenges local farmers face.
It was noted that the partnership will significantly boost commercial farming, enabling smallholder farmers to farm on large-scale operators with at least 5,000 hectares and beyond, improving productivity, increase access to modern agricultural technologies, and giving smallholder farmers better opportunities for the marketing of their produce.
Furthermore, the collaboration will broaden the farmer’s knowledge on the best practices in crop management, irrigation, and sustainable farming techniques, ensuring improved productivity, resource efficiency, and long-term agricultural sustainability.

Additionally, the partnership will also help reduce production costs, improve yield, and enhance food security through economies of scale while supporting the economic development of rural communities.
Country Director of Demeter Ghana and Chair of the UKGCC’s Agribusiness Sector Committee, William Hunt highlighted the challenges in the agriculture and energy sectors, noting that investment in modern farming techniques is sacrosanct.
Hunt reiterated that that “despite current challenges, Ghana’s agriculture sector holds immense potential. With the right tools, policies, and partnerships, we can close the yield gap and build a more resilient, expert-driven, and productive system.
