Christian Yohuno has officially assumed office as Ghana’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP), pledging to uphold professionalism, discipline, and public trust within the Ghana Police Service.
Speaking at his swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House, Yohuno expressed his commitment to strengthening law enforcement while aligning with the ongoing transformation and modernization of the police service.
“I approach this responsibility with the utmost seriousness, fully recognising the weight of expectations accompanying this role. In alignment with the transformation and modernisation of the service, I pledge to uphold the values, traditions, and culture of the Ghana Police Service,” Yohuno declared.
Focus on Discipline and Accountability
Yohuno stressed that his leadership will prioritize discipline and respect for seniority within the police hierarchy, echoing President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of resetting the agenda for the service.
He assured the public and the President that his administration would be rooted in professionalism, transparency, accountability, and fairness to meet the nation’s security needs.

“I assure you that professionalism, transparency, accountability, and fairness shall underpin my administration and focus on renewing attitudes by performance, thereby positioning the service to meet the aspirations of our people and foster peace and security in our country,” he added.
Presidential Appointment
Yohuno’s appointment follows President Mahama’s decision to relieve Dr. George Akuffo Dampare of his duties as IGP. The announcement was made through an official press statement signed by Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
According to the statement, the appointment was made in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution after consultations with the Council of State.
Yohuno, who previously served as Commissioner of Police (COP) and Deputy IGP, is expected to lead the service in advancing its modernization agenda while ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order across the country.
