The Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has appointed Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation.
This announcement was made via a press release signed by the Special Adviser to the President, Bayo Onanuga.
The press release revealed that the decision comes after a rigorous selection process honing to the competitive margin of applicants. However, based on the tenacity, experience, and educational background check, Ogunjimi was considered a merit of the position.
The press release further stated that Ogunjimi’s qualifications make him well-suited for the position, citing that “Ogunjimi graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. He also obtained a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.”
“ He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.” The press release further read.

Ogunjimi’s tenure is set to commence on the 7th of March 2025, following the retirement of the incumbent Accountant General, Oluwatoyin Madehin, who served as Director of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service until the same date.
It was noted that “the selection process underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions.”
Tinubu emphasized that Ogunjimi’s appointment is expected to be grounded on integrity, professionalism, and dedication to Nigeria’s service in overseeing the financial management and accounting functions of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
