In accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, President Akufo Addo will present his final State of the Nation Address (SoNA) on Friday, January 3, 2025. This address will mark a significant moment as it precedes the dissolution of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic.
The 8th Parliament will officially be dissolved on Monday, January 6, 2025, paving the way for the inauguration of the 9th Parliament. On the evening of January 6, the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) will convene at 11:00 PM for the election of the Speaker of Parliament and two Deputy Speakers. This election is a crucial step in formally inaugurating the new Parliament.
Following the election, at midnight, all members-elect and the Speaker-elect will take their oaths of office, signaling the beginning of the 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic.
According to a statement issued by Parliament, “The 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic will stand dissolved on Monday, January 6, 2025. The 9th Parliament will reconvene on the same day at 11 PM for the election of the Speaker and two Deputy Speakers. The Speaker-elect and members-elect will be sworn in at midnight.”
