Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, recently paid a courtesy visit to Kenyan President William Ruto to express gratitude for his support over the years and his re-election as Ghana’s next president. During the visit, Mahama invited President Ruto to attend his inauguration and swearing-in ceremony on January 7, 2025.
Mahama highlighted the visit as an opportunity to discuss regional integration efforts, continental security, and how Ghana and Kenya can collectively enhance the benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). As a former chair of the African Union (AU) high-level committee on trade, Mahama remains committed to expanding trade among countries under the AfCFTA and strengthening relations between Ghana and Kenya.
President Ruto, pleased with the visit, agreed to attend Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony in Accra next month. He also thanked Mahama for supporting Hon Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the African Union Commission chairperson.
Ruto expressed his intention to enhance relations with Ghana, including sectors such as trade and investment, agriculture, mining, tourism, oil, and gas. He noted that this would broaden opportunities for the people of both countries and ensure shared prosperity.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Raila Odinga in Kilgoris, Narok County.
