President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated the extension of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration office complex. The new edifice, comprising 146 office spaces, was financed through a grant from the government of the People’s Republic of China and constructed by Zhangjiang Group Company Limited.
The state-of-the-art building features a basement car park with a transponder access system, a flag room displaying the flags of countries with which Ghana maintains diplomatic relations, a clinic, a fitness center, and a press center that extends into a banquet hall for 300 persons.
During the inauguration ceremony in Accra, President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the new annex would enhance the Ministry’s capacity to fulfill its mandate and contribute to the vision of a prosperous and self-reliant Ghana. He highlighted the facility as a testament to the country’s commitment to fostering democracy and strengthening its foreign service capabilities.
President Akufo-Addo noted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ instrumental role in advancing Ghana’s diplomatic successes during his tenure. These achievements include hosting the secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area and the Climate Vulnerable Forum in Accra, securing a two-year tenure on the United Nations Security Council, and providing leadership during his terms as chair of ECOWAS amid challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.
He also highlighted Ghana’s full membership in the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) as a significant milestone, enhancing the country’s influence and deepening partnerships between Anglophone and Francophone Africa.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ms. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, praised the new facility as a testament to President Akufo-Addo’s dedication to advancing diplomatic efforts and enhancing governance. She expressed gratitude for the strong bilateral relations with China, which facilitated the grant for the project.
This new office complex underscores Ghana’s commitment to regional stability, global collaboration, and the vision of a secure and prosperous West Africa, aligned with the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
