The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has reaffirmed its commitment to the revival of the Old Port Harcourt Refinery, which recently resumed operations after a prolonged period of underperformance.
In a press statement, the company expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their unwavering support, describing the refinery’s restart as a “significant step forward.”
The facility, with a capacity of 60,000 barrels per day, is currently operating at 70% efficiency, with plans to increase production to 90% soon.
Addressing concerns over alleged non-production, NNPC Ltd. clarified that the refinery is actively producing essential petroleum products. Daily outputs include 1.4 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 900,000 liters of kerosene, and 1.5 million liters of diesel, among others.
The company also noted the use of crack C5 from Indorama Petrochemicals to ensure its gasoline meets required standards.
“Blending is a global standard practice,” the statement emphasized, countering claims that the refinery’s output is substandard.
NNPC Ltd. also highlighted progress on a new Port Harcourt Refinery, set to commence operations soon. Urging Nigerians to focus on these achievements, the company underscored the importance of supporting efforts led by President Bola Tinubu.
“Malicious attacks on clear progress only undermine the significant strides made by NNPC Ltd. and the country,” the company stated, calling for unity and continued trust in its mission to boost national economic growth.
