Kenya Airways has officially launched three transformative projects aimed at enhancing sustainability and operational efficiency, including the innovative Pyro-Diesel Plant, the Water Treatment & Bottling Plant, and the revamped Msafiri House.
These initiatives are part of the airline’s strategic recovery plan, Project Kifaru, marking a significant leap towards a greener future.
The launch event was attended by notable figures such as PS Ministry of Transport Mohamed Daghar and KAA Board Chairman Hon. Caleb Kositany, along with the leadership team of Kenya Airways.
The standout feature of these projects is the Pyro-Diesel Plant, which will convert plastic waste into usable diesel fuel, producing up to 1,000 liters daily.
This initiative not only aims to reduce the airline’s reliance on traditional fossil fuels but also seeks to diminish the environmental impact of ground operations.
“This innovative approach will help us transition to more sustainable fuel options while addressing the pressing issue of plastic waste,” said a Kenya Airways representative during the launch.
In addition, the Water Treatment & Bottling Plant is expected to produce approximately 4,500 liters of water daily, significantly reducing water acquisition costs by up to 60%.
The transformation of Msafiri House into a centralized Operations Control Centre (OCC) will further streamline operations and enhance team collaboration.
Several agencies have lauded Kenya Airways for these initiatives, with the Kenya Airports Authority stating, “Congratulations once again to Kenya Airways for these bold steps towards a more sustainable and efficient future! We look forward to witnessing the positive impact these projects will have on both the airline and the environment.”
