Ghana’s Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has commended the World Bank for supporting a major solar energy project, pledging the government’s full backing for similar initiatives aimed at diversifying the country’s energy mix.
Speaking during a visit by World Bank Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer (MDCAO), Mr. Wencai Zhang, Jinapor encouraged LMI Holdings developers of Africa’s largest single solar rooftop project to explore existing renewable energy opportunities and offer competitive pricing actively. He also revealed the government’s plan to launch an all-in-one solar-powered street lighting system as part of broader efforts to expand access to sustainable energy solutions.
Mr. Zhang’s tour of Ghana is part of the World Bank’s broader commitment to supporting the country’s renewable energy to ensure accessible, low-emission, reliable, and affordable electricity to businesses and individuals to enhance infrastructural development.

In addition to the energy sector, the World Bank’s support extends to improving flood risk management and solid waste disposal in the Odaw River Basin, as well as enhancing access to basic infrastructure and services in surrounding communities.
During his visit to LMI Holdings, Mr. Zhang expressed confidence in the 16.82-megawatt rooftop solar project’s ability to lower energy costs, enhance efficiency within the energy sector, and significantly reduce carbon emissions.
“Looking ahead, we are going to work on another project to support the government’s efforts for industrialisation and more renewable energy development in the country. These new projects certainly can further bring our cooperation to a new level.” Mr Zhang said.
