The Isiolo County Resource team this week undertook a 5-day workshop on the Community Development Training Manual as Training of Trainers (TOT).
The training according to the government is aimed at helping the team understand community needs and involve them in projects to ensure their success.
The team learned about various topical issues that affect community development, particularly those implemented by Self Help Groups (SHGs). They were also trained in group formation and development, leadership and governance, conflict resolution and management, and project management.
To emphasize the importance of community participation in development projects, the resource team was also taken through the participatory development approach.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Mustafa Kuntulo, Mercy Corps’ County Lead, stressed the need for the county government to engage Ward Planning Committees as a way of formulating projects that are sustainable beyond donor aid.
“This can only be achieved when technical teams from the government understand community needs and work with Ward Planning Committees in line with the County Government ACT, 2018,” said Kuntulo.
Kuntulo added that the county resource team must understand participatory development and integrate it into their work. In addition to this, the training also covered resource mobilization, facilitation skills, and record-keeping, which are other critical components of community development.
The training was supported by Mercy Corps and was facilitated by the Directorate of Social Development.
The Isiolo County Resource team’s training is a significant step towards community development in the region. By understanding the community’s needs and involving them in projects, the team will be able to ensure the success and sustainability of development projects beyond donor aid.
