Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has apprehended an individual claiming to be an official of the organization, identified as Coloraransi, for extorting money from citizens whose vehicles were impounded for traffic violations.
The suspect, later identified as Femi Adegbemi, was found accepting bribes from motorists who had their vehicles seized for non-compliance with traffic laws.
Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Department of Civil Affairs and Intelligence Program at LASTMA, confirmed the arrest, emphasizing the agency’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
Following thorough investigations, it was revealed that Adegbemi, residing in the Anifowose area of Somolu, confessed to his involvement in the fraudulent activity, admitting to accepting bribes totaling over 500,000 Naira. Chief Bakare-Oki, LASTMA’s Chief Executive Officer, issued a stern warning against such misconduct, assuring the public of the agency’s commitment to upholding the law.
Attorney Akerele Kehinde from LASTMA’s Legal Department affirmed that the suspect will be prosecuted, underscoring the importance of holding accountable those who undermine the integrity of public service.
