President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive action by dismissing Alexander Okoh, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).
The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, who highlighted Tinubu’s intention to restructure and reposition key government agencies to safeguard the rights of Nigerian consumers.
Okoh, who assumed the role on April 13, 2017, is now directed to hand over to the next most senior officer in the BPE.
Tinubu also removed Babatunde Irukera from his position as Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
Irukera, initially appointed as DG of the Consumer Protection Council in April 2017, faced the consequences of the broader transition of the CPC into the FCCPC in December 2019.
The dismissals are set to take immediate effect, with Ngelale emphasizing the need for a fresh approach to fortify key institutions contributing to the nation’s economic growth.
