The Volta River Authority (VRA) in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana has commenced a series of fumigation and disinfection exercises in communities where flood levels have significantly subsided.
This initiative forms part of efforts to provide relief interventions to affected persons of the spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong dams
The necessity for this move arose as families, eager to return to their residences and reinstate a sense of normalcy, have been faced with the threat of diseases due to high pollution levels in the receding floodwaters.
“This action has been necessitated by the fact that as the flood levels recede, families have initiated processes to return to their various houses in order to resume normal life.
Due to the high levels of pollution in the flood waters, it has become expedient for the various communities and facilities to be fumigated and disinfected in order to prevent any outbreak of diseases,” VRA indicated in a release today.
Mr. Divine Fenu, the District Chief Executive of North Tongu, expressed profound gratitude to the VRA during a preliminary briefing.
He underscored the district’s commitment to ensuring safety by mentioning an assessment team evaluating the structural soundness of impacted buildings and infrastructure.
The fumigation drive, which kicked off in Mepe on Sunday, October 29, 2023, will be systematically rolled out across all affected districts.
