The Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Ghana has launched a new mobile service aimed at making it more convenient for Ghanaians to obtain their driving documents.
This door-to-door approach will particularly benefit students by addressing the challenges they face when acquiring licenses and other necessary documents while on campus.
Additionally, the initiative includes driving lessons and education on road regulations to promote responsible driving.
The DVLA’s Chief Executive Officer, Kwasi Agyeman Busia, announced the introduction of the mobile service during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University for Development Studies (UDS) for the implementation of the Tertiary Students Drivers Project (Test Drive).
The collaboration with UDS marks an important milestone in the DVLA’s efforts to improve road safety and welfare. Under the MoU, the university will conduct research and training programs focused on driving and riding.
UDS will also introduce driving courses to enable students to obtain valid licenses.
Professor Seidu Alhassan, the Vice Chancellor of UDS, praised the DVLA for its commitment to road user welfare. He emphasized that the partnership would enhance students’ understanding of driving regulations and facilitate the acquisition of licenses.
Furthermore, the collaboration will support research initiatives aimed at generating detailed information to implement innovative ideas.
Abraham Zaato, the Head of Research, Business Development, and Innovation at the DVLA, highlighted the objective of establishing partnerships for learning, research, and development.

The mobile service will provide efficient customer service, ensuring that students, lecturers, and staff receive their licenses promptly. Mr. Zaato stated that the MoU also encompasses research programs on driver and vehicle safety, as well as research advisory and data services.
The partnership will enhance management and students’ access to theory test management, practical training, testing sites, and TERDRIVE, which will augment the capabilities of students involved in the program.
