The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has authorized a one-time waiver of all outstanding interests and penalties imposed by TaxPro Max on liabilities resulting from monitoring, desk review, tax audit, and tax investigation exercises until December 31, 2022.
The tax body said in a statement issued by the FIRS Executive Chairman, Mr. Muhammad Nami, that the service had taken note of the concerns raised by taxpayers regarding the imposition of additional interest and penalties when generating Payment Reference Numbers (PRN) on liabilities resulting from monitoring, desk review, tax audit, and tax investigation exercises.
In light of this, it stated that it had approved a one-time waiver of all outstanding interests and penalties imposed by TaxPro Max on liabilities resulting from monitoring, desk review, tax audit, and tax investigation exercises until the end of the year.
The statement read, “Pending the resolution of the taxpayers’ concerns, the Service has approved a one-time waiver of all outstanding interests and penalties imposed by TaxPro Max on liabilities arising from monitoring, desk review, tax audit, and tax investigation exercises until December 31, 2022.
The TaxPro-Max, a tool for filing tax returns and paying taxes, was unveiled and made available by FIRS in June 2021. The remedy has made it simpler to pay taxes in Nigeria and decreased the expense of taxpayers’ tax compliance.
The TaxPro Max’s admirable effects have greatly aided in the efficiency of tax collections and the service’s record-breaking performance in 2021.
A recent IMF mission to Nigeria praised the tax automation system’s steady implementation and suggested stepping up efforts to further broaden coverage in accordance with a well-thought-out roadmap and strengthen taxpayer segmentation centered on the Large Taxpayer Offices (LTOs).
Given the aforementioned, the FIRS stated that taxpayers are advised to take advantage of this opportunity and pay all outstanding tax liabilities as mentioned in paragraph 2 above.
The Service will be forced to use the appropriate legal provisions in order to recover all unpaid taxes if the outstanding tax liabilities are not paid by the deadline, it was stated in the warning. ”
Additionally, the Federal Inland Revenue Service Executive Chairman at Revenue House, No. 15, Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, was instructed to receive all inquiries on the aforementioned subject.
