Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi has appointed Andrew Sesinyi as the country’s new High Commissioner to Kenya. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press statement highlighting Sesinyi’s vast experience and expertise in public service, banking, and international media organizations.
Sesinyi, a seasoned journalist, previously served as the Permanent Secretary of Government Communications at the Office of the President from 2019 to 2021. He has also held several key positions within the public service, including Deputy Permanent Secretary for Political Affairs and Senior Private Secretary to the former President of Botswana, Dr. Festus Gontebanye Mogae.
The released statement also notes that Sesinyi has represented Botswana’s interests abroad while serving at the country’s diplomatic missions in Namibia and Zambia.
Sesinyi is expected to take up his new position in May 2023, succeeding High Commissioner Gobopang Duke Lefhoko, who recently completed his tour of duty. The appointment is expected to strengthen the relationship between Botswana and Kenya, particularly in areas of trade, investment, and tourism.
