Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has assured residents of the Greater Accra Metropolis and surrounding areas of progressive improvements in water supply as the country prepares for Christmas and New Year celebrations, despite recent disruptions affecting several communities.
In a press release, the state-owned utility acknowledged ongoing challenges with water distribution and confirmed that technical teams have been deployed to carry out intensive maintenance at treatment plants. These efforts aim to stabilise production and restore reliable flow to affected neighbourhoods in the coming days.
With the festive season expected to drive higher water demand alongside the approaching dry season, GWL emphasised its commitment to equitable distribution. The company stated that, barring unforeseen technical issues, customers should experience noticeable enhancements in service over the holiday period.
Managing Director, Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, addressed public concerns directly, saying: “We understand the inconvenience the recent supply interruptions have caused, especially as families prepare for the festive holidays. Our teams are working tirelessly to stabilise the system and improve water flow to all affected communities.” He appealed for patience and continued conservation efforts to support a smooth festive season.
To promote responsible usage, GWL urged customers to repair leaks promptly, store water safely, limit non-essential activities such as car washing, and report illegal connections or burst pipes. The utility also encouraged the public to follow its Water Demand Management Programme schedules and official updates on social media for transparent information on supply timelines.
As part of its customer engagement strategy, GWL reminded residents to contact its call centre or customer service lines for assistance and to rely only on verified channels for accurate information.
The assurance comes as GWL reaffirms its mandate to deliver safe and uninterrupted potable water nationwide, calling on the public’s cooperation to ensure efficient resource management during this high-demand period.
