The Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) has sealed a landmark agreement with Chinese energy giant Endurance Group to build 500 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refuelling stations across Nigeria within the next three years, in a major boost to the country’s transition to cleaner transport fuels.
Speaking to journalists after high-level talks in Abuja, MDGIF Executive Director Oluwole Adama announced that the partners will establish a government-backed Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) jointly promoted by MDGIF, the Bank of Industry (BOI), Endurance Group, and Séquoia Investment Partners.
A new entity, Compressed Natural Gas Auto Mobility Infrastructure Company (CAM InfraCo), will be responsible for deploying the 500 integrated CNG refuelling stations, developing LNG gas supply infrastructure, and providing CNG and LNG transportation trucks equipped with truck-mounted cascades to create a “virtual gas pipeline” network reaching every state.
“This collaboration underscores our commitment to accelerating Nigeria’s shift to cleaner fuels by closing critical infrastructure gaps across the CNG value chain,” Adama said. He added that the project will dramatically reduce long queues at existing stations, guarantee consistent supply through modern logistics, and deliver CNG from strategically located mother stations to underserved northern corridors and fast-growing southern clusters.

Senior Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties and Domestic Affairs, Oluwatoyin Subair, described the initiative as a cornerstone of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for energy security and deeper auto-CNG adoption, cutting reliance on petrol (PMS) and diesel (AGO) especially in the transport sector while creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
Endurance Group CEO Eric Lin said the SPV will focus on leasing CNG-related equipment to certified operators and building a world-class refuelling, maintenance, and logistics ecosystem. “Our leasing and logistics model will deliver commercially viable, resilient national CNG infrastructure and ensure rapid, cost-effective market expansion,” Lin stated.
The announcement marks one of the most ambitious single commitments yet to Nigeria’s Presidential CNG Initiative (Pi-CNG) and is expected to significantly lower transport costs, reduce emissions, and strengthen domestic gas utilisation in the coming years.
