The South African Local Government Association (SALGA), in collaboration with the National Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE) and the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA), held a Municipal Climate Finance, Project Preparation, and Funding Proposal Development Workshop at the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality in Middelburg.
The workshop aimed to empower municipal officials by enhancing their understanding of climate finance sources and mechanisms. It provided practical training to strengthen skills in project preparation and management, enabling local governments to effectively access, integrate, manage, and report on climate finance.

Participants gained insights into a range of financing opportunities for environmental and climate-related projects. The event also fostered collaboration, allowing stakeholders to share best practices and explore innovative solutions to address climate challenges.
The initiative underscores SALGA’s commitment to building institutional capacity and promoting sustainable development at the local government level
