The Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has launched the Business and Employment Assistance Programme (BEAP) under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
This initiative is aimed at providing support to approximately 10,000 small businesses owned by young Ghanaian entrepreneurs, as well as benefit 20,000 youth seeking employment opportunities.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of the youth as a vital resource for the country’s economic development and expressed the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for their success.
The BEAP will assist Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by offering financial support to skilled workers and facilitating the hiring of additional youth.
The programme will also play the role in sustaining and expanding businesses, with successful applicants receiving financial aid to cover employee salaries.
During the launch event in Sunyani on December 11, 2023, Dr. Bawumia affirmed the significance of the initiative, stating, “I am particularly excited about the relief this initiative will provide to the Ghanaian youth,” highlighting the government’s dedication to providing opportunities for both existing businesses and job creation.
This programme is the latest addition to a series of youth-focused interventions by the government through the YEA, including the successful pilot of the YouStart programme and engagements in various sectors such as agriculture, ICT, and entrepreneurship training.
