The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has initiated feasibility studies for the Green and Purple rail lines in collaboration with the private sector.
The Green Line, spanning 68 kilometers, is meticulously planned to traverse prominent areas such as Marina, Victoria Island, Lekki Phase 1, Ajah, and more.
With an initial capacity to accommodate over 500,000 passengers daily, the Green Line’s ridership is expected to surpass a million by 2031.
The Purple Line, covering 60 kilometers, will connect regions including Redemption Camp, Toll Gate, Omole, LASU, and Ojo, aiming to alleviate transportation challenges in the bustling metropolis.
LAMATA’s Managing Director, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, unveiled these plans during a briefing in Lagos, marking the 20th anniversary of LAMATA’s operations.
Akinajo emphasized that these rail systems, identified by distinct colors such as Green, Purple, Yellow, Orange, Blue, and Red, are strategically designed to revolutionize transportation in Lagos State.
With the Green and Purple lines set to follow the ongoing Blue Rail-Line project, the comprehensive approach aims to address the increasing demands of a growing urban population.
