The Port of Mombasa welcomed the first cruise ship of 2026 this morning as the luxurious MV Crystal Symphony gracefully sailed into berth, carrying over a thousand guests eager to explore Kenya’s coastal charms and wildlife.
The 238-meter-long vessel, with a draft of 8 meters, arrived from Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) in South Africa, marking its second visit to Kenya following an inaugural call last year. Passengers will enjoy a full day in Mombasa before the ship sets sail toward India.

Tourists aboard the Crystal Symphony are set to immerse themselves in Kenya’s renowned attractions, including safaris to famous wildlife parks, strolls through Mombasa’s vibrant streets, and visits to local historical sites.

“We’ve received such a warm welcome,” said Ms. Vicky Vantassel, the ship’s Cruise Entertainment Director. “Everyone is excited to explore Kenya, even if just for the day. Our guests are thrilled to be back.”
The arrival was celebrated with a welcome reception attended by key officials, including Ms. June Chepkemei, CEO of the Kenya Tourism Board, and senior representatives from the Mombasa county government.

Speaking on behalf of Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Captain William Ruto, Corporation Secretary and General Manager for Board and Legal Services, Mr. Turasha Kinyanjui, emphasized the port’s dedication to expanding cruise tourism. “We are committed to enhancing guest experiences through facility upgrades and strong partnerships with all stakeholders,” he said.

The MV Crystal Symphony’s docking signals a promising start to a busy cruise season, with several more vessels scheduled to arrive in the coming weeks. This influx is expected to provide a significant economic lift to local tourism businesses and reinforce Kenya’s growing appeal as a premier cruise destination in East Africa.
