President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has officially launched the development and asphalting of a 26-kilometre road linking Sandiniéry to Tanaff and extending to the Guinea-Bissau border, marking a significant step towards enhanced regional connectivity and economic growth.
The strategic infrastructure project is expected to open up Senegal’s interior regions, strengthen cross-border trade with neighbouring Guinea-Bissau, and provide a vital boost to the local economy. Officials say the upgraded road will facilitate smoother movement of goods and people, improving access to markets and essential services.
Long-awaited by local communities, the project addresses key challenges including poor mobility, road safety concerns, and limited access to social and economic facilities. Residents in the southern Casamance region have expressed relief that their persistent demands for better infrastructure are finally being met.

During the launch ceremony, President Faye highlighted the direct positive impact on living conditions for local populations, describing road infrastructure as an essential driver of national development, territorial cohesion, and sub-regional integration. “This project serves the territories and the well-being of our people,” he emphasised.
The President also announced plans for an upcoming visit to the nearby Kolda region in response to calls from residents, while reaffirming that his administration’s Diomaye Plan for Casamance adopts a comprehensive, inclusive, and balanced approach covering the entire natural Casamance area.
The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to delivering impactful, sustainable infrastructure projects that prioritise territorial equity and support Senegal’s broader vision for economic transformation and regional cooperation.
