The serene island town of Lamu transformed into a vibrant spectacle today as the luxury cruise ship MV SH Diana, operated by Swan Hellenic Expeditions, docked with grandeur, marking its impressive third visit to the Lamu archipelago.
Carrying 120 passengers and 129 crew members, the 125-meter vessel arrived following a historic stop at Shimoni Port in Kwale, greeted by an enthusiastic local community that welcomed the tourists with a lively traditional Bajuni jig, setting the tone for an immersive cultural exchange. The visitors eagerly explored the UNESCO-listed Lamu Old Town, marveling at its Swahili architecture, historic mosques, and the pristine Shela Beach, further cementing the island’s rising status as a must-visit global cruise destination.

Lamu County Governor Hon. Issa Timamy hosted a warm welcoming ceremony, praising Swan Hellenic for consistently including Lamu in their itinerary and hailing the visit as a promising indicator of the region’s growing allure in the international tourism market. He urged cruise operators to consider additional stopovers, assuring visitors of the island’s safety, peace, and renowned hospitality while inviting them to delve into its rich Swahili heritage during their stay.
