President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced that the Federal Government is prepared to support the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in acquiring Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses.
This initiative, part of the government’s energy transition program, aims to facilitate more affordable and sustainable public transportation options across Nigeria.
During a national broadcast commemorating the 64th Independence Anniversary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Tinubu acknowledged the economic hardships facing many Nigerians and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to easing these burdens.
“Our administration is implementing various measures to reduce the cost of living at home,” he said, highlighting the importance of collaboration between federal and state governments in achieving these goals.
The President’s announcement reflects a broader strategy to modernize and diversify Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure, aligning with the government’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
The adoption of CNG, known for its lower emissions and cost-effectiveness compared to traditional fuel sources, is expected to enhance the affordability of public transit and reduce the environmental footprint.
As Nigeria continues to advance its economic and infrastructural reforms, this development stresses the government’s proactive approach to addressing immediate public needs while laying the groundwork for long-term sustainability.
