As a way of enhancing the communication skills and public speaking abilities of its members of staff, the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) recently trained its management staff on elocution and public speaking.
The training, which took place recently at Dr. Finnih Park, Oregun, Lagos, was part of LASPARK’s commitment to fostering effective leadership among its staff, in recognition of the crucial role that strong communication skills play in periodically engaging with members of the public.
The General Manager of LASPARK, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola, who was represented at the event by the Director and Head of Greener Lagos Managers at LASPARK, Mrs.Yinka Oladini, while welcoming the facilitators and participants to the training session, stressed the importance of continuous learning and professional development to the staff.
“This training is a significant step towards equipping our management team with essential skills that will not only be beneficial to their careers but also contribute to the growth of the Agency,” she said.
She encouraged the staff to keep an open mind and embrace the opportunity to learn new techniques that would assist their public speaking abilities and enhance their overall effectiveness as leaders.
The General Manager assured the management team that the Agency would continue to invest in programmes aimed at developing staff competencies to meet the evolving needs of public service delivery in Lagos State.
During her presentation at the training, the facilitator and Robson, an accomplished Etiquette and Image Consultant, Mrs. Gloria Robson shared valuable insights on the fundamentals of elocution, the art of delivering speeches with clarity, and how to project confidence while addressing an audience.
She highlighted the significance of non-verbal communication, including body language and facial expressions in reinforcing the spoken word.
“Public speaking is not just about what you say, but how you say it,” Mrs. Robson noted. “Effective communication requires not only well-chosen words but also the ability to connect emotionally with your audience.”
