The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has urged Ghanaian farmers to register their farms on the GHAAP Farmers App, a government initiative aimed at boosting support for agricultural activities.
Speaking at a press briefing on October 1, 2024,
Dr. Acheampong emphasized the critical importance of the app, stating, “Go and register your farms, so you can benefit from government’s policies.”
He assured farmers that registration would grant them access to vital resources such as food, fertilizers, and other necessary agricultural inputs.
Highlighting the success of the initiative so far, Dr. Acheampong revealed that over 800,000 farmers have registered on the app in just four months.
To support the process, the Ministry of Agriculture has equipped 2,700 agricultural extension officers with Samsung A9 tablets, each valued at GH¢4,000, enabling them to help farmers register.
“Each has been tasked to register at least 12 farmers in a day,” he said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to digitizing the agricultural sector and encouraging farmers to embrace the technology.
Dr. Acheampong also stressed that the initiative would ensure accountability in the distribution of government resources, as it allows the ministry to track investments and ensure that support reaches those who need it most.
He reiterated that the GHAAP App was free from political influence, adding, “There is no politics in this.”
The minister concluded by encouraging farmers nationwide to embrace the digital platform for their long-term benefit and the advancement of agriculture in Ghana.
