Botswana is placing digitalisation at the forefront of its national agenda, President Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi affirmed during his address at the Summit of the Future Action Day.
Held at the United Nations headquarters as part of the 2024 UN General Assembly (UNGA), the summit gathered global leaders, tech enthusiasts, and civil society to discuss shaping a digital future.
Dr. Masisi made it clear that Botswana’s commitment to digitalisation is a core component of the nation’s “reset and reclaim” strategy.
“My administration has prioritised digitalisation as one of its priorities,” President Masisi told a packed audience, stressing the potential of technology to bridge societal gaps.
He emphasised that if leveraged correctly, digital tools could not only promote gender parity but also advance human rights. Masisi underscored that international peace and security depend on the effective use of digital platforms to address global threats.
Meanwhile, Botswana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Lemogang Kwape, revealed that President Masisi is set to participate in high-level UNGA meetings and bilateral talks.
These include discussions with the UN Secretary General António Guterres and the leaders of Estonia and Nepal.
These engagements aim to bolster Botswana’s global influence, especially as the country prepares to host the third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) in December.
