The Lagos State Government has shut down Cravings & More, a fast food outlet on Egbeda-Idimu Road, for illegally discharging waste into public drains.
The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) initiated the closure following numerous complaints from residents about the restaurant’s improper disposal of fats and oils.
This unsanitary practice led to blocked drains, a surge in maggots and houseflies, and unpleasant odors, creating significant health risks for the local community.
Tokunbo Wahab, Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, announced the action via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Wahab highlighted that the restaurant’s unwholesome sanitation practices caused massive drainage clogging and a foul odor affecting the surrounding area.
The government remains committed to enforcing strict sanitation and hygiene standards to protect the well-being of Lagos residents, especially in residential areas.
This crackdown is part of a broader effort by the Lagos State Government to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Recent enforcement actions also include the closure of Donald Fast Foods in Lekki Phase 1 for noise pollution and other violations, as well as previous temporary shutdowns of The Bay Lounge and major markets for similar infractions.
These measures reflect the state’s dedication to maintaining public health and quality of life through rigorous regulatory oversight.
