Uganda Airlines has in August 2024 marked its fifth anniversary commemorating the inaugural flight from Entebbe to Nairobi on the same date in 2019.
Despite initial skepticism and predictions of its failure, the national carrier has not only survived but flourished, expanding its reach across the region and beyond.
Celebrations were held to honor this milestone, with the airline’s leadership reflecting on its significant achievements, including the launch of new services to Abuja, Harare, and Lusaka.
The airline has played a major role in promoting Uganda’s image globally, acting as the country’s unofficial marketing ambassador.
From Nairobi to Dubai, passengers are introduced to Ugandan culture through in-flight magazines, while positive feedback has highlighted the airline’s outstanding cabin service.
Additionally, Uganda Airlines has significantly boosted trade, with up to 70% of passengers on Dubai and Mumbai flights being traders transporting Ugandan goods.
The airline’s cargo capabilities have also supported the export of local products, further enhancing Uganda’s presence in international markets.
Over the past five years, Uganda Airlines has become a critical part of the country’s economy, directly employing over 500 Ugandans and indirectly supporting many more.
The airline has also served as a lifeline during crises, such as the evacuation of Ugandans during the COVID-19 pandemic and the conflict in Sudan.
As Uganda Airlines continues to expand its services, including upcoming flights to London and China, the airline’s leadership remains committed to providing world-class service while contributing to the nation’s growth and development.
