The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) has launched a new Sustainability Disclosure Guidance in collaboration with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Africa, aimed at promoting corporate responsibility and sustainable growth among listed companies.
The initiative aims to enhance the quality and consistency of information disclosed by local listed companies, promoting corporate responsibility and sustainable growth.
Speaking at the launch, GRI Africa Programme Manager, Mr Bhongolwethu Sonti, highlighted the significance of the guidelines in improving investment decisions through high-quality sustainable information. He emphasized the need for companies to disclose their environmental and societal impact, as they are no longer judged solely on financial performance.
The guidelines aim to ensure that sustainability issues impact not only financial performance but also social and environmental aspects. Mr Sonti noted that Botswana’s corporate governance landscape is evolving rapidly, and the BSE’s initiative promotes alignment with international standards.
The implementation of the regulations is expected to enhance the BSE’s reputation, increase investment flows, and promote sustainable business practices. Mr Sonti emphasized that robust sustainability reporting frameworks can lead to tangible benefits, including improved market reputation, increased resilience, and social, economic, and environmental challenges.
The BSE has demonstrated a commitment to fostering sustainable business practices and ensuring strong corporate responsibility. The launch of the Sustainability Disclosure Guidance marks a significant milestone in the exchange’s journey towards becoming a world-class securities exchange.
