The Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Brigadier General Ziblim Ayorrogo has led a high-powered delegation to the headquarters of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) in Accra.
The visit aimed to discuss collaboration efforts between the Customs Division and GTEC, particularly in accrediting two new master’s programs—Master of Science in Customs Administration (MSc) and Master of Commerce in Customs Administration (MCom).
Prof. Ahmed Abdulai Jinapor, Director General of GTEC, commended the GRA’s commitment to enhancing the technical expertise of its staff, recognizing the critical role such expertise plays in the transformation of the economy.
During the meeting, Prof. Jinapor also acknowledged the efforts of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), which had previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the GRA to design the aforementioned master’s programs.
These programs are expected to begin by October this year.
The Director General pledged to send a team to assess UCC’s preparedness to run the courses and praised the Customs Division for initiating such a vital educational endeavor.
Brigadier General Ayorrogo expressed optimism that the programs would address the current skills gap in the Customs Division, enhancing their operational efficiency.
Both parties emphasized importance of bridging the gap between academia and industry, seeing this collaboration as a major step towards national development.
