The Tincan Island Port Command (TCIP) reported an impressive revenue collection of N315.2 billion in the first half of the fiscal year 2024.
This achievement marks a 221.13% increase from the same period in the previous year, where the revenue was N260.3 billion.
The TCIP’s operations aligned with its statutory functions of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and enforcement/anti-smuggling activities, demonstrating the effectiveness of the Command’s strategic initiatives and technological advancements.
In its relentless fight against smuggling, the enforcement and anti-smuggling unit of the TCIP made several notable seizures.
These included various firearms and substantial quantities of illicit substances, such as 1,072 kilograms of Cannabis Indica and 877 cartons of codeine-laden cough syrup, with an approximate street value of over N4 billion.
These effort aligns the Command’s commitment to maintaining compliance with international trade regulations and ensuring the safety and security of the port environment.
On the export front, TCIP also recorded a notable performance, with the total Free on Board (FOB) value of exported goods reaching N1.03 trillion and a total volume of 489,594.50 metric tons.
This represents a significant increase from the first half of 2023, where the export value was N182.3 billion.
The Command’s engagement with various stakeholders, including shipping companies and terminal operators, has been pivotal in facilitating trade and enhancing operational efficiency.
The ongoing construction works on port access roads and the use of barge transportation for cargo movement further reflect the Command’s commitment to improving logistics and trade facilitation in line with international best practices.
