Parliament has approved Herbert Krapa as the Minister of State-designate for the Energy Ministry.
This decision follows a contentious process where a previous attempt by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to expedite Krapa’s vetting and approval was blocked by the Minority.
President Akufo-Addo had nominated Herbert Krapa, the deputy Energy Minister, to the role following the selection of current Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate for NPP flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In response to the nomination, the Majority Leader sought to fast-track Krapa’s approval to prevent a leadership vacuum at the ministry.
However, the Minority opposed the rush, with Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah arguing that the incumbent Energy Minister was still in office, making the urgency unnecessary.
Despite the contention, the issue resurfaced on Wednesday, and the Appointments Committee recommended Krapa’s approval. A walkout by the Minority in protest did not prevent the ultimate approval of the report.
